SLZB-U2L.
Finally in range.
SLZB-U2L by SMLIGHT puts your USB smart-home radio on your local network.
Plug the USB coordinator or dongle you already use — Zigbee, Thread, Z-Wave, LoRa or
433 MHz — into the SLZB-U2L, place the box wherever radio coverage is best, and your
smart-home server reaches it over Wi-Fi or Ethernet as if the adapter were plugged straight into it.
No more USB extension cables that never reach the right spot. The radio goes where the mesh needs
it; your Home Assistant, Zigbee2MQTT or Z-Wave JS server stays where you keep it.
What it does
The SLZB-U2L is a compact USB-to-network gateway. Its one job, done well: take the USB radio
adapter that runs your smart home and make it reachable by any server on your LAN —
wirelessly over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, or wired over Ethernet (with addon). The radio stays exactly
where it performs best (a central hallway, the attic, another floor), while the server that
controls it lives anywhere on the network.
How it works
01
Plug in your radio
Connect your USB Zigbee / Z-Wave / Thread / LoRa dongle to the SLZB-U2L’s USB host port.
02
Connect it to your network
Join your Wi-Fi, or plug in an Ethernet cable (optional module).
03
Point your server at it
In Home Assistant, Zigbee2MQTT, Z-Wave JS or ESPHome, set the serial port to the SLZB-U2L’s network address (a TCP socket).
04
Done
Your server streams data to and from the radio over the network. To your software it looks and behaves exactly like a locally-connected USB stick.
Under the hood, the SLZB-U2L bridges the dongle’s USB / serial interface to a network socket,
so the raw radio traffic travels across your LAN with minimal latency — no drivers, no cables
run through walls.
Key hardware
ESP32-S3 based
Real silicon, running its own operating system.
USB host
USB-A and USB-C ports for your radio adapter. A USB-C device port also lets you connect the bridge straight to a computer over USB when you don’t need the network.
2.4 GHz Wi-Fi
Built in, for a fully wireless install out of the box.
Wired Ethernet (W5500) via addon
A hardware TCP/IP 10/100 Ethernet controller on the optional Ethernet module, for a rock-solid, interference-free link.
Compact board
PCB roughly 131 × 49 mm, powered over USB-C (or over the network with the PoE module).
Its own operating system
With a multilanguage web UI and over-the-air updates.
Software
WireGuard VPN
A fast, encrypted tunnel to reach the bridge and its radio securely from anywhere, or to place a bridge at a remote location.
DDNS
Built-in dynamic DNS keeps the device reachable even when your ISP changes your IP address.
Scripts & automations
Run logic directly on the device: schedule tasks, react to events and automate housekeeping without any extra server.
OTA updates
One-click over-the-air firmware updates, on both SLZB-OS and ESPHome.
ESPHome supported
Prefer open source end-to-end? Flash ESPHome for USB host, USB-UART passthrough and Bluetooth Proxy.
LED control & multilanguage UI
Per-LED control (including the RJ45 port LEDs) and a clean web interface in several languages.
What plugs into it
Tested & verified
| Zigbee / Thread |
SLZB-07, SLZB-07P7, SLZB-07P10, SLZB-07MG24 and similar coordinators. |
| Z-Wave |
Popular Z-Wave USB controllers and sticks from the major brands. |
| Almost any other dongle |
Adapters built on CH34X, CH340, ESP_JTAG, STM32_VCP, CDC_ACM or CP210X — covering nearly every hobbyist radio ever made. |
Works with Home Assistant, Zigbee2MQTT, Z-Wave JS
and any server that can open a networked serial port — or ESPHome for a
fully open-source setup.
Optional add-on modules
Ethernet (W5500)
Adds a wired 10/100 RJ45 network port for a stable, interference-free connection.
PoE
Power and network over a single Ethernet cable; perfect for ceiling or wall installs with no power socket nearby.
4G / LTE
A mobile-internet uplink for sites with no wired or Wi-Fi internet, great paired with WireGuard for remote deployments.
Important — please read before ordering
Ethernet, PoE and 4G are OPTIONAL modules
The base unit connects over Wi-Fi and USB. Please choose the variant that includes the Ethernet, PoE and/or 4G module if you need those.
4G and USB cannot be connected at the same time
The optional 4G/LTE module works only in USB-modem mode and occupies the USB channel, so the 4G module and a USB device cannot be connected at the same time. Choose one or the other for a given install.
Two dongles at once: CP2102 only, for now
Connecting two USB dongles at the same time currently works with CP2102 chip-based devices. Support for more combinations is expanding through firmware updates.
In the box
The SLZB-U2L ships with a functional enclosure in a plain protective box.
Ethernet addon, 4G addon and PoE addon are optional — please select the respective bundle.
Great for
Running a Zigbee coordinator over the network instead of a USB cable that never reaches the right place.
Placing the radio in the centre of the home for the strongest mesh, while the server stays in the rack.
Adding a Thread / Matter or Z-Wave adapter to your setup, on the network.
Deploying a bridge at a remote site over WireGuard (with the 4G module where there’s no wired internet).
